1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an actor, writer, and geek from Toronto. A graduate of George Brown Theatre School, I’ve been in plays, and film. I’ve been a beloved children’s television character (though not on television); I’ve worn a dragon costume in a film; I’ve been Polonius; I’ve been a producer, a director and a candlestick maker (one of those is a lie). I’ve created and written plays. I’ve been in a silent film live on stage.
2. Do you have a blog or website?
I do, thanks for asking. You can find me on www.philrickaby.com or on the twitters at @philrickaby
3. Is this your first Monkeyman show? If not, what monkey-credits do you have under your belt?
This is my first show as an actor for Monkeyman. Previously, I have directed Dead Man’s Party in 2009, and Jordan Hall’s “The Second Last Man on Earth” for the Banana Festival.
4. Tell us a little about the character you are playing.
I am playing Sir Alec Guthrie in Phoenix II. Sir Alec is a Welsh-Canadian Shakespearean actor, well known for his roles on both the stage and on film & television. He is gregarious, outgoing, and flamboyant in a way that only someone who has spent a life in the theatre can be. He is a consumate professional in every way, except perhaps where his rival John Taylor is concerned.
6. Monkeyman Productions tends to produce shows that are a little on the “nerdy” side. What do you get nerdy about?
I get nerdy about movies, about books, about comics, about video games, about theatre (I’m definitely a Shakespeare nerd), and role playing games.
